DURABLE CONCRETE

 Concrete resists weathering, chemical attack, and other types of deterioration. The quality of concrete determines how long it lasts. Good concrete has properties that match its application and expected exposure conditions. Identify the likely causes of concrete deterioration: abrasion, chemical attack, corrosion of reinforcement, freezing and thawing, reactive aggregates, or scaling before you begin a project. High-performance concrete (HPC)

  Concrete that has been designed to be more durable and stronger than conventional concrete is known as high-performance concrete (HPC). The materials used in HPC mixtures are generally the same as those in conventional concrete mixtures, but the proportions are designed, or engineered, to meet the structural and environmental requirements of a project. Concrete with a specified compressive strength greater than 8000 psi (55 MPa) is called high-strength concrete.
